A List Of Over 100 275 300 375 500+ Women Blogging On Politics — by Catherine Morgan

UPDATE: As of August 1st, we now have 500 women political bloggers.

Answering the question…Where are all the women political bloggers? I decided to take some time today and surf the Internet for as many women blogging on politics that I could find. The refreshing thing about women political bloggers is their diversity…and here are 100 300 500 of them.

The list started after I read this article…

Women, Politics, and the Internet — Katharine Q. Seelye

We know that women slightly outnumber men online. But at least anecdotally, it seems as if more men are on the political blogs, writing specifically about politics, reading about politics and putting in their two cents in the comments sections. Did you notice how many more men compared to women submitted videos for the Democratic YouTube debate in July? The pool of videos for the upcoming Republican YouTube debate is similarly stocked with more men.

The list is now in alphabetical order. If you would like something added to your link, or you would like your blog added to this list…just say so in comments. Thanks.

When I first published this list back in October, we had links to 100 women blogging about politics. Today, the count is at 500, and still growing. Are you a woman blogging about politics? Are you on the list? If not, please leave me your link in comments, so I can add your blog. And, if you would like to be a guest blogger on The Political Voices of Women with a guest post, please join our community.

I hope you’ll take some time and check out the women on the list…and if you blog about politics, consider adding some of these women to your blogroll, or linking to them in a post.

Hi Catherine,
Thanks for including my blog here on your list. I appreciate it. I think I’m noticing increased visitors which is good. I’m hoping that you will humour a small request. It’s about the description for my blog. I’ve changed the first few lines slightly and I’m hoping that I can convince you to reflect the change here. The lines read:
“first of all, you will not like me. that’s not necessary. i hope you’ll keep reading, anyways…”

Thanks in advance. And again, much appreciation for the nod here on this list. darkdaughta.

One of the drawbacks of living in New Zealand is that no one knows we exist. I’m an ex-pat these days, living in Australia, but I maintain a blog focusing on feminism, NZ politics, atheism, gardening, cooking, and anything else I feel like blogging about. As I get used to living in Australia, no doubt I will start blogging about Aussie politics too. It’s In a Strange Land. The strange land would be Australia, or just being female in a male world.

I also blog at a newly started NZ feminist team blog: The Hand Mirror.

And there’s Maia’s fantastic blog: Capitalism Bad; Tree Pretty.

There’s been a huge dust-up in the American feminist blogosphere recently. I understand, a little, about how WoC feel, because so often, their voices are overlooked, not heard, even squashed down. Just a little, ‘tho – I am after all, a comparatively well-off, well educated, white woman. But the little bit of understanding comes from the experience of nobody trying to hear voices from beyond their own country. There’s a whole big world out there, folks.

And yes, I will be trying to ensure that I listen to what Maori women, and indigenous Australian women have to say, and making damned sure that I don’t appropriate their work, and force them to fit into my version of feminism.

My concern locally is the rfid in new license plates, and the coming real id that will be used as a national identity card, it will also contain an rfid chip in it. All the better to control us my dears…

I’ve been a registered Republican since 1984, when I was first allowed to vote. I have not been happy with the state of the country, particularly in the last 4 years; even though I voted for the candidate. I’ve heard some really great talk from both parties, but can anyone tell me who is more likely to walk that talk in the coming years?? I’ve seen nothing but political promises which we have all seen in the past to have not come to fruition.

Very conflicted and confused right now.

Hi Zohra. I have had a bunch of requests to add blogs from outside the US. It would just be waaaaaay too much work for me to keep a list of all the women political bloggers from all countries.

Anyway, I’ve suggested to others that they start their own list of women political bloggers, for their own area or country. It’s really very easy to begin. I found my first hundred just by using Google searches. And once you have a list…they will come. Just leave a place for people to have their links added, and before you know it, you will have a pretty substantial list. Good luck. And, if you do begin your own list, please let me know. I would definitely add your link to my sidebar. :-)

I’ve not read all the comments just yet so maybe someone has already pointed this out: reference to Frances L. Hollands’ blog, truth-about-kos is in error. It’s Francis L. Holland, Esq. A guy.

This list is a great help and I’ll refer to it often. Thanks for all your hard work.

Hey “hysperia” you are correct. I just checked it out. On our list Francis was spelled Frances. [Subject] StateDemocracy.org Equips You for the 2008 Elections

Dear Citizen:
Are you ready yet for the November 4th Elections? How about your friends, family, and neighbors?
More Americans are expected to vote this year than ever before in history, so don’t be left out! Be sure to ask everyone you know the following questions:
 Are you registered to vote? If you moved recently, have you updated your voter registration?
 Did you apply for an Absentee Ballot? Do you know your state may not require any reason?
 Can you find your local Polling Place? Do you know it may have changed from last time?
The answers to these questions — and all your voting needs — can be found at http://www.StateDemocracy.org — the FREE 1-Stop citizen empowerment portal that Delivers Democracy to your Desktop! StateDemocracy is among the Internet’s first (since 2001) and most encompassing civic empowerment tools.
In order to boost voter participation this year, StateDemocracy.org is offering FREE widgets for all 50 states. You can simply download and embed these widgets into your own website so your visitors can register to vote, get an absentee ballot or find their local polling place.
Lobby Congress Via StateDemocracy
StateDemocracy.org also equips you to maintain an active dialog with your state and federal lawmakers once they are elected. And RIGHT NOW is an especially opportune time to contact your U.S. Senators and House Member, as Congress takes up major legislation on such issues as offshore oil drilling, another economic stimulus package and all federal appropriations bills over the next few weeks.
As you lobby your elected officials, remember that lawmakers view your constituent input as reflective of scores of other citizens who felt similarly, but didn’t have (or take) the time to share their opinions.
LobbyDelegates.com Further Empowered Grassroots Voices
Over the past 5 months, you may have visited http://www.LobbyDelegates.com, along with 26,000 other visitors. This latest public interest portal by the StateDemocracy Foundation remained the only online tool enabling rank-and-file Democrats to lobby all 800+ Super Delegates on which candidate to back for the party’s Presidential nomination.
StateDemocracy Foundation Website Users Unite!
Many of you have used our StateDemocracy.org and LobbyDelegates.com tools in recent times, and have hopefully found your experience uplifting and empowering. I encourage all of you to help spread the news about StateDemocracy.org to enable more of our fellow citizens to Connect! Engage! And Empower!

Does this page have some sort of glitch? I am getting e-mails from readers saying that they’ve noted my site, Elaine’s Like Maria Said Paz, Betty’s Thomas Friedman is a Great Man, and others and the comments never get posted and the blogs never get added. Could you explain that please so I have something to reply other than, “I don’t know the site you’re talking about?” And with regards to Betty and Marcia of SICKOFITRADLZ, the e-mails are especially vocal about how this list needs more women of color which I would agree. Is it a glitch or are some people purposely not allowed to post comments? I’m getting tired of being asked that and constantly replying, “I don’t know the site you’re talking about.” As I was told, there is no easy to find e-mail so people cannot write you directly. If it’s not a glitch that keeps comments from posting and you’re only allowing some comments, you should put some sort of notice up because for the fourth week I’m getting e-mails about this and I don’t have the time to repeatedly respond “I don’t know the site you’re talking about.” I’m not asking to be added, I’m asking for a response I can give to people asking me why their comments do not appear here. If you’d rather respond to me in an e-mail and not post this, feel free, my e-mail’s entered. I’m a grandmother helping my son raise his one-year-old daughter so I may not see your e-mail immediately.

Comment from Catherine Morgan
Time: October 4, 2008, 11:51 am

With all due respect Trina. I have no idea what you are talking about. If a woman who blogs about politics would like to be added to this list, all they have to do is put their link here, and I will add it to the list at my earliest convenience.

Comment from Betty
Time: October 8, 2008, 2:58 pm

Trina’s not the only one getting these e-mails. “Write a comment” is what’s at the bottom of this page. What I’m using now. With all due respect Catherine, Trina’s point is fairly obvious.
Like her I’m getting e-mails saying, “Betty, I left a comment asking your site to be linked to but the comment never went up.”
How is that hard to grasp?
Like Trina, I have no idea what to tell people.
The forum implies anyone can leave a comment but apparently some comments are not going up like when people come by to say, “Hey, ____ is a great site by a woman. You should add it.”
That’s what Trina wrote about it and it was clear to me.
Who is allowed to comment because my readers are e-mailing me saying they leave a comment here and it never appears?

NOW, I am doing and becoming more of my true self restricted in what I write only by my own sense of good manners, my moral conscience, and my agility of wit and words. I write about topics that matter to me, that tweak my interest, raise my hackles, or tickle my funnybone.

This list is amazing! In a world where more and more voices are silenced, where in many places women are still pushed back and denied of the same rights men have, it’s good to see that there are so many of us that won’t shut up, that will keep fighting for ourselves, our mother and daughters. Don’t give up, ladies, don’t give up!
