Here is some post debate media and blogger reaction.  If you want to see what I thought, check out this link, that also has the full video of last night’s debate.  I am very interested in what YOU thought.  Who won?  Who lost?  Are you sick of hearing about “Joe” the plumber?   Who do you feel will do better fixing our economy?  What about health care, taxes, and jobs?  Let me know what you think in comments.

Here is what some of the bloggers thought.

From The Reaction – Debate Wrap

I think Mr. McCain has begun to believe the mantra of Sarah Palin; he’s got nothing to lose, which would explain his attempt to throw everything he had at Mr. Obama, who deflected them well, including the much-anticipated Ayers assault. If anything, that made Mr. McCain look desperate; at one point he said he didn’t care about an old “washed-up terrorist,” but then kept harping on him.

From E.D. Kain at Indiepundit – Conservative Reaction to Debate

Once again I see this completely out-of-touch reaction amongst conservative bloggers to last night’s debate. Once again there is this notion that he did wonderfully. Comment threads reveal this idea that he “smashed” Obama.

I just don’t see it. I really don’t. I’ve been extremely neutral–even leaning toward McCain for the vast majority of this race–and I try to listen to these debates the way moderates and independents would. Conservatives are having a hard time understanding this. They think the echo-chamber will work. They think the attacks that have failed will somehow suddenly start working. Ayers is a dead end.

What am I saying? McCain is a dead end at this point. It’s sad, really. I hold very few politicians in as high regard as John McCain, and yet this election has changed him. Big time.

Realistically, who’s surprised that the conservative bloggers are hailing this as a win? McCain did do better than usual, but a win???

From Ablative Absolute

There was absolutely nothing unpredictable about last night’s debate. In fact, it followed the essential pattern of every other debate in the General.

1. Obama came across as calm and collected.
2. McCain was disdainful, aggressive and petulant.
3. McCain started off strong, but end up getting flustered when his attacks weren’t landing. He petered out as the debate wore on.
4. The post-debate pundit spin was that McCain won…
5. …which was immediately disproven by the across the board sweep of all of the focus groups and snap polls that showed Obama wiped McCain out.

From The Pamflet

Even though I give a thumbs down to both candidates, Obama was the clear winner because he was much less awful than McCain on visuals alone, and he succeeded in avoiding any game-changing mistakes.

With only 19 days remaining, the dynamics of this race have ossified. I’d expect the RNC to give McCain one last chance to shake things up. If the race doesn’t show signs of changing dramatically in a week or so, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the RNC pull its efforts on the presidential race and focus on saving the Senate seats in Kentucky and Georgia.

On the lighter side of the debate…

I thought it was a complete debacle for the McCain campaign. I found the “Joe the plumber” bit quite disrespectful, McCain’s “pride” in Sarah Palin and comment regarding her husband’s worth sexist, the quotation marks around a mothers “health” disturbing, and his general demeanor to be akin to a whiny third grader. And the adherence to the William Ayer’s thing? Embarrasing.

I actually found myself laughing with shock at several moments during the debate. At lease I rested peacefully that night… Usually these debates leave me riled up, but this one left me confident.
