Senator Ted Kennedy gave a powerful, inspiring, and courageous speech tonight at The Democratic National Convention. And, just in case you missed it…
—Here is some of what other bloggers are saying about Ted Kennedy’s speech. What did you think?
From Young Life Style…
Ted Kennedy is such a large figure in American Life. His oldest brother died in world war I, His brother John F Kennedy was assassinated, his brother Robert Kennedy was assassinated. He is from a very influential family which as impacted American life in some way or sort, but yet still he does not focus on the past, his speech was about the future, and how we need to focus on the future.
Ted vowed tonight that he will be there in January for the swearing in of the presidency and he will be there to champion health care in America come 2009. Senator Ted Kennedy’s speech was the feel good moment of the night.

Tonight we got the opportunity to hear the Lion of the Senate roar again. It was somewhat bittersweet. We know that he is ill but he said nothing could stop him from being at the convention. The video preceeding his speech touted the things he believes in and what as been a constant is his commitment to service. This is not something he pays lip service to but this is how he has lived his life. He still speaks of healthcare and how it is not a privilege for the few but a right for all. He ended his brief speech by saying “the dream lives on.” Chris Matthews said “we have seen a Kennedy grow old” and that is a blessing that his brothers did not have. The song that played at the end of his speech was “Still the One” and we can only echo that sentiment.

I don’t have the words composed for this yet and don’t think I will for a while. I was born after John died and while Bobby was still alive. Tonight I watched the last great moment of the brothers that defined the modern era, the men that my the biggest difference in my young parents’ world and, though I did not know it, my own childhood.

Sen. Edward Kennedy, who was not even confirmed to attend, delivered an empassioned speech before cheering crowds. Convention staff handed out blue and white “Kennedy” signs to every person in the arena before he was introduced by his daughter, Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg.

Wow!
That’s why we still have conventions. Ted Kennedy is by far the best senator of my lifetime and likely the last 100 years and he’s fierce! He and I got diagnosed about the same time. His is much more serious, obviously, but still, he’s up there on that podium saying, “I will be there with Obama in January”
And most importantly, he promised to finally…
Make Health Care what it is – a RIGHT not a privilege.
Health Care for every single American NOW!
Anything less is simply unconscionable!
Tell that to everyone you see.
We’re all praying for and sending our support to the honorable Ted Kennedy.

I don’t think our country has ever completely gotten over the assassination of John F. Kennedy. I know I haven’t. But tonight’s address at the Democratic Convention by Ted Kennedy, following Ken Burns’ superb film tribute, sure came close to redeeming some of that lost spirit.

No one knew if he would make it into the eagerly expectant house, but he did.
After a warm introduction by Caroline Schlossberg Kennedy and a loving film tribute, Senator Ted Kennedy strode onto the stage and greeted the convention with an incredibly strong voice, struggling but somehow managing to overcome the obvious effects of his brain tumor.
Kennedy promised to be present at Obama’s inauguration in January, and promised to fight for health care for all. He praised Obama’s message of hope, and reminded us that his brother John never said the moon was too far away, and we shouldn’t bother to go.
Good bless Ted Kennedy, and let us pray for a full recovery of his mind, which is a national treasure.
