Hillary To Be Placed In Nomination At Convention

Hillary Clinton’s name will be placed in nomination at the Democratic National Convention. I think this is a smart move, and possibly the only way to bring Obama and Clinton supporters together. It’s more of a symbolic gesture than anything else, that will honor Hillary Clinton’s historic bid for the White House. I imagine this decision may also contribute to more people wanting to watch the convention from home. And…until the bitter end, I will still hold out hope that Obama makes Hillary his running mate.

Here is some of what is being reported on this around the web

ABC News’ Kate Snow reports

A deal has been brokered between Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton that will allow Clinton’s name to be placed in nomination at next week’s Democratic nominating convention, sources close to the Clinton camp told ABC News.

“Both sides agree that it is in the best interest of party unity and making sure that everyone’s voice and vote is honored to make sure her name is put into nomination,” a person close the negotiations said. “It’s to honor everyone who worked so hard on both sides.”

Clinton’s Historic Bid To Be Honored

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton will have her name placed into nomination at the Democratic Convention in Denver later this month, people involved in the talks said, and the Obama and Clinton teams are preparing to make a joint announcement about how the question of honoring Clinton’s historic bid has been resolved. It was not immediately clear whether that will include a full roll-call vote or some other mechanism — the arrangements were apparently still being worked out late last night — but people close to Clinton expressed a high degree of satisfaction with how the conversations with the Obama campaign had gone.

For Democrats inside the convention center in Denver, as well as the television audience at home, it could create some interesting moments. After the state-by-state roll is tallied, Mrs. Clinton is expected to turn over her cache of delegates to Senator Barack Obama.

So how will Mrs. Clinton, who is a superdelegate herself, vote? Associates say she will throw her lot behind Mr. Obama and ask her supporters to follow suit.

According to the various reports, this wasn’t exactly the result of a “negotiation,” per se, but was simply the move both camps saw as the right way to go. A Democratic Party operative familiar with convention plans told CNN that the Obama campaign hopes the move will bring “peace in the kingdom.”

Does this have any substantive significance? Well, no. But there was a genuine (and legitimate) fear that if Clinton’s name was not placed in nomination, her most enthusiastic supporters would have perceived it as a disrespectful “snub,” and the likelihood of intra-party strife at the convention would have been considerably greater.

A party source told Greg Sargent, “This will recognize the historic nature of the primaries, honor the voices of everyone who participated, and help with party unity.”

In the broader context, it’s worth keeping in mind that things seem to be coming together pretty well in advance of the convention. Ben Smith noted, “Despite the occasional tensions both at the tops of the campaigns and among their supporters, the actual convention planning appears to be coming off without major controversies.”

From HillaryBuzz

Hillary Clinton deserves the respect of having her name placed onto the ballot, the same way all other Democratic candidates have been placed on the ballot, including Howard Dean, Ted Kennedy, Jesse Jackson, and Shirley Chisholm (back in 1972).

It is, of course, an opportunity for Superdelegates to do the right thing and nominate the Democrat who can actually win in the fall — Hillary Clinton — instead of the media’s chosen candidate and world’s new international megacelebrity, ObamaSoeroto.

Counting Florida and Michigan’s delegates with full votes means ObamaSoeroto does not have enough delegates at the moment to secure the nomination — and Edwards’ delegates are up for grabs after his exposure as a bathroom-hiding-liar. The Russian invasian of Georgia proves America can not afford to have an ill-equipped and poorly-prepared kumbaya faux-Messiah. We need someone who knows what she is doing in the White House.
