What most people don't seem to understand is was the foreign audience that elevated her comments to unforgivable. Come on home and talk about Bush all you want. Don't air the family's laundry in a on foreign soil. She embarrassed us.

I find it interesting how this story is tied in to B.O.'s. Basically it states that if you burned Dixie Chicks cd's, you must be a racist because you won't vote for B.O. Let me tell you something. I am sick and tired of how politicians are treating us citizen's like their subjects. It is they who are supposed to be our servents. Further more, I looked at B.O. seriously because of all the hoopla that the media made over him and thought, well, maybe. The more I listened to him, I myself looked at his voting record in the Senate (or lack of record), looked where he stood on policies, there was no way I could or would have voted for him. I am not a racist. I have friends that I love that I can't even begin to think of as a color. They are so much more then their skin! Stop degrading people like you do!

Catherine thanks for sharing Cynthia Samuels great post.

Sadly, I was appalled but not entirely surprised by what happened to the Dixie Chicks. Those of us old enough to recall what happened to Jane Fonda during the Viet Nam era know that there is a segment of America that only believes in "freedom of speech" when you agree with what they are saying.

I think that every generation of Americans from the days of the Continental Congress to the Civil War, to the women's suffrage movement, to the civil rights movement and to today can tell stories about individuals who have been persecuted for exercising their free speech. It's an American past time has popular as baseball.

Great post. Thanks for bringing this important film to the public's attention. I was appalled by the reaction the Dixie Chicks received. If I were traveling in Europe right now, I'd make sure I had a patch on my jacket, or a tatoo on my forehead that states, "I didn't vote for Bush - twice!" It is terrifying that this kind of McCarthyism still exists in this enlightened age. Again, terrific post.
