Remembering Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. — This is from my post at the Care2 Election Blog.

ATLANTA, Jan. 20 — Sen. Barack Obama took the pulpit of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.‘s church here Sunday and drew a clear link between King’s vision of an America free of segregation and racism and the central tenet of his own presidential campaign, a call for unity after years of partisan rancor and division.

What Change Will You Make This MLK Day?

You can’t read or watch much of anything about the presidential race without hearing about change. Every candidate touts himself or herself as the one who will bring about real change. Apparently, the American people are clamoring for change. But in what way we want things to be different, well, that depends on who you ask.

What kind of change would Martin Luther King Jr. want to see in today’s world? Would he see that his dream has been realized, in some instances? Or would he see the ugliness of racism alive and well? A little of both, probably. Most likely, King would agree with his predecessor in peaceful civil disobedience, Mahatma Gandhi, who said, “We must be the change we wish to see in the world.”

When it comes to racism and equality and treating others fairly, there is no political candidate who can guarantee
change. Most of that stuff is up to us. It comes down to personal responsibility and attitude.

The War On Greed and Holding Candidates Responsible

To correspond with the Martin Luther King holiday tomorrow, Brave New Films has produced one of their excellent short films to remind us that King’s dream was not only for racial and societal equality but it was a fight for economic equality as well, more specifically, a fight for the middle class and the pursuit of the American dream.
