A Blogger Gives Thanks
This is from a post at Mixter’s Mix.
While I believe that this country has seen better days, I have not given up the ship. I am thankful to live in a country in which we may (at least for now) worship the way we want to, or not at all. We can say what we want to (for the most part) and not get thrown in a cell indefinitely. We are free to travel (unless your name is on a list) throughout this beautiful country and the world. We can strive to succeed, though some have more opportunities than others (face it, it’s true), and the American dream is still the gold standard throughout the world.
However, there are some things that need work: Racial equality would be nice. Anyone who says there’s an even playing field is either a liar or misinformed. Gender equality? When women actually make the same pay for the same job as men, I’ll be a happy camper. Gay rights, including the right to marry, are an absolute necessity. Whether or not they’re born that way or choose to live an alternative lifestyle, who is to say that they are any less a citizen of our great nation and should not have the same rights as anyone else? The two-party political system? It’s broken; let’s either fix it or start something new. The Bush administration? Criminals. Impeach, indict, prosecute the criminals. It’s the only way we can save face.
