SCHIP and the Moral Bankruptcy of the GOP

2 November, 2007 (11:42) | Bush, children, GOP, healthcare, SCHIP | By: Catherine Morgan

The sneaky policies of the Bush administration are continuing to hurt our children.  Here is a post from Fact-esque that sums it up pretty well.

Speaking of moral and spiritual bankruptcy, how do you kill an overwhelmingly popular and effective health care program that brings health care to ten million American children in need while you pretend to want to re-authorize the same program?   If you’re the morally and spiritually bankrupt GOP, you

1. Set up a phony and evil class war between “low-income” families and the scheming, undeserving “middle class” by pretending to care about the “low-income” children getting coverage: Insist that an impossibly high percentage of “low-income” children are covered before any “middle class” child can have access to  program dollars.

2. Drag “illegals” through the mud and pretend that the program ever allowed undocumented children to steal health care from the federal treasury: Insist on program eligibility requirements that will prevent “low-income” families from signing up making sure that the impossibly high sign-up requirement from Step One is never met.
